Cheating on DVX usage hours?

I've heard that it's possible to tweak the operating hours counter in order to show less usage than reality.

Since I bought a 48 hours DVX recently and had servo zoom issues lately, I'm inclined to think I've been frauded in someway.

Any opinions?

I've read about that happening by accident, after the camera was in very cold conditions.

It could have higher use hours, but not tape-in-the-camera hours. In other words, the previous owner could have recorded to a laptop or external recorder for hundreds of hours. The hour meter only runs when the camera is on and a tape has been inserted.

Whether or not the seller knew the servo zoom had a problem is another issue.

It's possible. Under 0F these cameras reset their hours. i have seen it happen on school cameras. (not mine, i take better care of mine)
