Cheapest Software That Can Edit XDCam EX Files?

OK, I shot a video for a colleague of mine. He has a trial of Avid Pinnacle Studio HD Ultimate 10. I don't even know one thing about that piece of software but I know it's no Avid Media Composer. It doesn't have AMA and wouldn't read the .mp4 XDCam EX files.

So, what is the cheapest software I can recommend so that he can do some basic editing? Or I can of course transcode something but I do not know much about non-professional software. I am an Edius, Final Cut Pro and Avid MC type of guy.
 
Well, I was going to say Premiere Elements, but it seems even that doesn't support xdcam

Tell him to try out Editshare Lightworks. A few months ago they made it open source, you can download the latest beta for free from here - http://www.lightworksbeta.com/

I know for a fact it has native support for xdcam, and is supposed to be a pretty slick editor if it doesn't have any qualms with your system, heh. Worth a try!

edit: actually now looking through it's specifications, it seems they changed it. Next to xdcam ex support, it has a star next to it saying "at extra cost". There's nothing in their store to purchase, so I'm not quite sure what they're on about. Seems it doesn't support any mpeg2 codecs other than matroxes
