any laptop with usb ports will offload cards via usb or via usb reader. Asus eee PC is I think the cheapest solution, but you would need to bring an additional external drive to dump the cards to.
I almost went this route but am holding out for a new generation of MacBookPro in a travel size....I've had great luck with the Lacie Rugged drives as field units, they work great off of bus power (no additional AC adapters needed)
This subject raises an interesting question: all of the laptops at Costco have ExpressCard 54 slots. The XDCam EX uses ExpressCard 34 slots, so where does one find a laptop with a '34 slot?
Any caveates to using 34 cards in 54 slots? Or is it like a universal slot that accepts both with equal applomb? On another forum, some one said that he bought a $600 used Dell laptop to offload clips on-site. If this solution works, I can use it, but if the 54 slot is much slower transfer, maybe I'll have to find one with a 34 slot.
ExpressCard is designed such that 34mm cards can be used in 54mm slots. My new Lenovo has a 54mm slot and you use the 34mm card by putting it in all the way to the left side of the slot. Check out the picture of a 34mm and 54mm in the Wikipedia entry and it should become a lot more obvious as to how it works.
