alright, i'm getting a camera, i'v always wanted a dvx, but just can't afford it, so right now, i'm thinking of the dvc, but now there's this new one comming out, and i'm thinking the price on the dvx is going to drop, or there's going to be a lot online for cheaper... am i on the right track??

The HDX is not going to be a direct competitor to the DVX because it's going to be double the price, possibly more. However, there is some overlap between the DVX and HDX market segments, so you might see a little downward pressure on the price (from the combined sales of the HDX, the XL-2, the JVC GY-HD100U, and the Sony HVR-Z1). You'll see the most noticeable drop in the used price of the DVX as some current users migrate to HD cams.

"double" the price sounds scary... if the HDX carries an MSRP of $6,000, then technically it'd only be 50% more expensive than the DVX (DVX MSRP is $3995).

Of course, if the HDX is truly "under $10,000" and that turns out to mean $9999, then yeah, it'd be 2.5x as much. But I'm going with what Jan said a long time ago, which was that it'd be priced competitive with the Z1. The Z1's MSRP is $5946, so I'm thinking $6,000, or $5,000 street price.

Even so, even at $10,000 it'd still be an incredible deal. Just a few months ago the lowest-cost high-def camera that could shoot 24P was $70,000 (for just the body, of course, lenses and power supply are extra!) So $10,000 would be a killer deal. But I'm thinking it'll be lower than that.

Four weeks and counting...

Barry, quit talking the price up. I think $4500 would be a reasonable deal. I'm not growing money in the backyard here. : )
