Cheap way to achieve arieal shots

I've recently completed training for and was hired as an aerial camera operator. The company is a helicopter company that provides eng copters for local news stations. Once you have used a gyroscope camera and understand the principles of aerial shooting, you'll realize how much goes into those aerial beauty shoots. I plan on bringing my DVX along and shooting some stuff with it. I know its gonna be shaky as hell , but I'll try and post some stuff in the next couple of weeks.

The cheapest way we've gotten aerial shots is by using an ultralight. Cost $100/hr to go up in a tandem ultralight, professional pilot in one seat and cameraman in the other. The footage was not steady, as you can well guess, but we only need a few seconds at a time.

Also you're limited as to where you can fly.

But $100/hr is pretty darn cheap, and it is technically an aerial shot...

1. The CHEAPEST method I used is to use the Ken Burns method on a high-res aerial photograph. You can find these on the internet or buy from a site. You can add cars or people with any compositing program to add more reality.

2.Or buy the stock footage for less then a $100.

3.Drink a Red Bull....cause it gives you wings. Seriously....i **** you not. Bay used that method on the Island.
