Cheap HVX companion camera?

I need to get a second camera (I have an HVX) for B-Roll and random footage at weddings. Ideally I'd love to have a second HVX, but for now I need something a lot less money. I saw the Panasonic HDC-SD1. That looks promising.

I know the footage won't match too well.

Any suggestions?

Hey, Prodigy. After I posted this, I started to really think about it and I am going to rent an HVX. Where I live the nearest rental place is about 3 hours away in Chicago. That's why I was going to buy a cheap camera. Anyways, I have a friend coming in from Chicago that weekend so it worked out perfect.

Oh, I also meant to say the ideal situation would be owning an HPX500 and using my current HVX as the B-Roll cam. :)

Good to hear... and yeah, and HPX500 would be a nice A cam. :)

HV20 is going to be my little glovebox and b cam for a while. HPX would be a nice 2nd cam... but I'd probably still rather get an HVX and rent the red or the HPX when needed...

WOW, it will shoot 15mbps AVCHD.... thats like 30mbps HDV, nearly XDcam compression. Thats impressive.
And its 24f. Cool as hell.

Also David the tech specs say 1920 x1080 recording, not 720. So it may be a 1080i/24f Camera like the A1.

www.camcorderinfo.com posted a not very favourable review of this camera at 24f...

They say its much worse than the hv20 in 24f.

Also, it records the same as HV20 (1440x1080). The picture is beautiful but it is a little softer than the HV20. SPZ, you are right....camcorderinfo.com says the 24p is not usable but Austin Meyers, who actually used the cam stated that its 24p looked like garbage on a computer monitor but that it should play fine on an interlaced monitor (don't know if he actually viewed it on an interlaced monitor).

Sorry if I'm not supposed to link another forum here....not sure.

My mistake, it does shoot 1080/24p

Just saw some footage on a demo unit, and it does look good transcode to Apple's preres codec.

Austin Meyers has a link at the site noted above where you can download prores, h.264, raw and animation codec samples
