Cheap external lcd monitor

Go with a smallhd dp4 and you won't regret it. If you have a bigger budget decently get yourself DP6.

My guess is that he's located in the EU, so there might be better alternatives. I would look at TVLogic or Swit myself. Marshall if you need extreme dailylight viewability for a small price.
Either way... that price mark you have will only give you a larger "viewfinder"....

At the moment I need only a large viewfinder. However, if I can, I'll try to wait and buy a better and more expensive monitor :)

I'd save for a better monitor, your end result is based on how well you can see what you're shooting. I'd say for focus then something like the smallHD DP6 is vital. I had a smaller LCD before i got a DP6 and regretted it 100%

Did you see any problem with it on this picture ?? :)

I saw your comparisons and they don't say a thing in regards to use on steadicam. I made my remark because you wrote you wanted to get a 5" for steadicamming and followingly linked to a 5"...

Try and place yourself in daylight... tilt the monitor like it would be on a steadicam around 30-45 degrees angle and see how much you can see on your lilliput.
There's a reason the big guys spend oodles of money on steadicam monitors or old green monitors. You get what you pay for... end of story.

EDIT:

I like this comparison better... seems more honest and takes into account that you cant hide yourself under some roof or similar all the time shooting.

Of course if you don't do daylight steadicamming you probably wouldn't care.

Personally i think the minimum res should be 720p (Small HD6), anything less than that and you're just making life focusing more difficult. With that kind of res you can focus without focus aids. I just think it makes life a lot easier
