Cheap Electronic Distance Measuring Device/Rangefinder (Like redrockmicro"microtape")
So, the flowers are starting to bloom and I want to try my first walking (non tripod) shot with a D7000.
The depth of field will be between 1.5-2.5 feet, depending on the field of view and aperture.
I was planning on using the 50mm f1.4G at a FOV of 6-9 ft.
I do not have a follow focus kit, nor a long throw lens with hard stops, so focus would be locked.
The only way I could think to keep constant distance from "the talent" (my wife) is to connect our belts with surgical tubing (like a thin bungee cord). I back up as she walks forward.
I think the bungee cord would work, but I'd like to get a shot with her waist too.
For me this would require an electronic measuring device that constantly displays changes in the distance to subject, like the not yet released "microtape" from redrockmicro.

I see construction workers using electronic measuring devices. Anyone know of something that
1. Would work?
2. Is electronic?
3. Is cheap?
Note: Unlike the complete microremote/microtape kit, I'm not looking for something that controls focus, just something that tells me the distance.
Thanks in advance.
