CHEAP capturing solutions? (And 24p timecode issues)

It appears that my little consumer-style cam, the PV-GS120 doesn't like miniDV tapes with 24p or 30p footage. It doesn't recognize the timecode, making the camera useless for capturing. This has been my only capturing solution up until now, and I would rather not depend on the DVX for capturing...

So... can anyone recommend some super cheapo consumer cams that don't have problems with 24p or 30p footage? It would be great if I didn't have to spend more than $150. Cheaper the better. No frills.

My PV-GS35 captures everything just fine.

Dont know the difference between the two cams. Sounds to me like the "120" would be a newer upgrade to mine. After checking the Panny site, it's looks like both our cams are outdated, but their model numbers indicate your's is "better" (or at least costs more). I cant imagine why it doesnt have the same functionality as mine.

Maybe it's your capture application. I'm capturing to Vegas. (Although I have no idea if that would even matter.)

I'm no help. :)

None of the cheap panasonics I tested worked to provide timecode. You can capture but without timecode you can't log/batch capture.

All the Sony's seem to work fine. Do a search here. If you need to buy a camera for deck check to see what the return policy is. Taht's how I returned the GS cameras I tried.

Yes, that doesn't seem to make sense.

I'm using Final Cut Pro, by the way.

Thanks, fellows... I will probably have to scour eBay for something... But more suggestions are appreciated!

Cheapy cams don't usually deal well with timecode, but I don't think this is the issue. 24p is emedded in a 60i DV stream, so technically, any camcorder can read 24p. It's the NLE that takes care of the 24p footage per say. Which version of Final Cut are you using? Do a search in the FCP forum, I heard there are particular ways to capture 24p footage, depending on the FCP version.

FCP HD (4.5).

The camera doesn't recognize the timecode even when it's not hooked up to my computer... that's why I feel like the problem must be with the cam.

FCP has no problem when the DVX is hooked up, though.
