Cheap camera as a deck for HD100?

Only a JVC camera (or deck) can do that. No Sony or Canon cameras or decks will transport JVC footage through the firewire so no Sony or Canon equipment can be used for capturing JVC HDV footage.

The HD1 and HD10 and the little C1U(?) deck can all transport JVC 24P/30P HDV footage, but they can't display 24P footage. You can use them for capturing 24P but they can't show you the footage on their LCDs or out their analog video outputs.

I'm not sure whether they can handle 50p/60p footage or not.
 
I sort of figured it would have to be a JVC. I was just hoping to be able to grab a $200 DVcam at WallyMart, as opposed to the several thousand $ routes. I'd even be happy to forgo 24P if it would help.
 
It might, but I have a real hard time justifying spending 3 times as much as I did for the camera, just to capture the footage. If I were a large studio, I could almost see it.

The deck can be had for $2600 new at B&H. How much did you get the camera for???
 
Just be aware that that little deck can't display 24p footage, only 30p. It can be used to digitize 24p, but it can't show it on its own display nor can it show the footage on a TV. You can only monitor the footage using a computer through the firewire input (or through a TV that has an MPEG-2-compatible firewire input).

At least, that's the way it was on the JVC HD1, and believe that CU-VH1 works the exact same way.
 
It wouldn't matter if I had the money right now (Which I don't), because I can't capture to Premiere anymore. If it's not one thing, it's another...

Why not just get a DR Hd100 thats what i did i went tapeless
when i had my sony FX1 i also bought a HVR M10U deck $3200
then when bought my HD 110u i was going to buy Br hd50
so instead i got the Dr 100 love it, shoot then just down load to my PC.( m2t files) or Quicktime For FCP users
from there just dump into the Vegas time line
the Dr hd100 Cost about $1400.00 from B&H

Sort of what I'm planning. tried using a HD10 as a loader... doesn't seem to like HD110 tapes that much. video noise and many more time code breaks.. just did the firmware update on my HD110.. and thinking a JVC firestore drive is the way to go. With my costs going up, and my luke warm feelig for the lens, I could have got a Panasonic P2 system. Oh well.. we will see. I like both cameras for different reasons (JVC HD110 & Pansonic HVX200). Ok, ok.. I'll only be happy with a Varicam.. and that's a couple steps down from a Panaflex to be honest...
