Cheap Audio Editing Speakers

Re: Cheap Audio Editing Speakers

The are only several models, all easily identifiable by the way they look. Mine was $99, which has the tall steel beams on each side and a shelf. The cheaper model for $69 just has the table surface with the option of the extended steel beams. There is another cheaper model, that lacks the option for steel beams.

As far as these Studio mons, none of these are designed for low-end. You'd need an accompanying sub for that. The M-Audio BX5s are tiny speakers, compared to the Events and the Behringer. The Truths are approx 1/2 the price of the Events and for the price, they are excellent, dare I say comparable to the Events?

Re: Cheap Audio Editing Speakers

I'm new here (just researching the camera before I buy it) but I do work with audio.

I'm not a fan of the M-Audio speakers, I don't find them flat enough while still being responsive.

For less than $300 a pair you can get a set of small Fostex active monitors that are, I think, the bees knees for the bucks spent. Can you get better, absolutely. Can you get better for under three bills - I have yet to find a better pair for that price.

I have a set of Fostex on my desk right not. Pumping out an orchestral score I'm working on and they're not bad at all.

Stay away from Creative Labs soundcards - unless you want to play a game they're crap. (This is especially true if you use them to record). The worst part of is that for the same money as an Audigy, you can get a decent sound card. I do like M-Audio's sound cards, and you can't go wrong with anything by MOTU (Mark of the Unicorn).
