Chase (some test footage)

I was getting desperate, I had to FILM something. So I hooked up with a guy named Troy who I had never met before, got my cousin, and this crazy Scottish chick I had never met before, and we decided to shoot a chase scene. For fun.

It is quite unfinished and that shot of the door being opened should be thrown away as it was only a camera rehearsal and there’s a bounce in the background. Our good cut ended up running out of tape room, so this is just filler.

Personally, I wish I had more closer shots of feet running, facial expressions, etc. , quick clips, but we were shooting fast due to the sun going down. As you can see it got progressively dark pretty fast. Some backyard fence hopping, tripping, falling into bushes, would have been nice but our non-actors didn’t really sign up for that. Anyways, this isn’t something I’ll be putting on my demo reel but I thought most of the camera work turned out okay.

This was some good stuff. I felt it was a little fake when the guy reached the girl as they rounded the little fence. He slowed down so he wouldn't catch her. Also, when she leaves thedoor open, it seemed as if she meant to. Other than that, it was awesome. I loved the stair jump and pan! Good job!

Thanks. Yeah, our main actor was a girl I'd never met until that day and my cousin, who wasn't exactly a running dude. The poor actress, who had never acted, was running in this thin little ankle sandles, meaning she couldn't really book it, but she was actually in good shape. We would love to do this again with real runners, people who book it, slide, trip, and jump over obstacles, there would be a lot more eye candy involved, but it really all depends on who you've got for actors.
The door shot was actually redone, but running out of tape cause it cut off the last shot, meaning we only had our camera rehearsal, lol. You can clearly see the 5-in-1 reflector in the middle of the shot, lol. The door actually closes by itself, but yeah we could've had her look more panicked or slam the door shut. Thing is, 30 seconds before the shot my landlord walked out and was like "hey guys, keeping it quiet tonight?". LOL, so we had to limit ourselves a bit. Thanks for the comments and thoughts, it's good to hear stuff like that. The whole shoot was meant to be slightly home camcorderish, and I really wish I had more cuts of legs running and facial emotions, but oh well. This is why I love test footage.

Saw a lot of "vignetting" (I guess you could call it) from whatever filter you had on there. I've seen the same problem when I shoot with more than one filter... actually I just started a thread about it yesterday.

Anyway... looked fun, I guess. Like msconce stated, the "stair jump and pan" was definitley the jewel of the footage.

Yeah, I was wondering what was causing the vignetting as well. Cool editing though, and I liked the jumping/panning shot as well. I'll have to remember that angle for one of my productions...

Yeah, the vignetting was caused by my .5x wide angle. I knew it was vignetting and I just didn't really worry about it that much. It wasn't too serious, lol.
Thanks for the comments.
