"Charlie And The Chocolate Factory"

Just saw it with my 9 and 5 year old girls. Three thumbs up from all of us. I was a big fan of the original and I'll be a fan of this remake. Johnny Depp was fantastic along with Tim Burton's direction. It kept me guessing were the story was going even though I knew the story. Going by the audience applause meter this movie should do well. Everyone in the theater clapped at the end.

Nice report Scott! I am having some reservations about this one.

My wife and son will probally go check it out. I love Depp but this is just looking like something I dont wanna see. The whole 'Nancy Wonka' and Burton thing just turns me off.

I don't know.

I have to say, the trailer looks terrible!

...but if the film is good... I may pop along on a Wednesday (2 for 1 night)

The trailer does not do it justice. Depp is wonderful! If you like the original you will like this.

Oh I forgot to say John, your 5 year old son and wife would love this. This is truly a family film.

This movie looks awsome, I'm hoping to see it tomarrow with my friends. They are going to see it while shrooming , which will probably be insane. But I'm not going to do shrooms, I don't do drugs. Just weed. - Half Baked (Thurgood Jenkins)

I just saw this as well - Mr. Burton did a really nice job, I loved the art direction as well as Johnny... it also garnered audience applause at the end, which is wierd, first time thats ever happened to me in a theater (when the filmmaker wasn't present). People literally clapped. It was crazy

I don't know if I'd go see it again, but I'd most likely get the DVD when it comes out. I loved the points in the movie where somebody would offer reassurement and then when their back was turned you could see it in their face that they weren't so sure of it... if you know what I mean. This happened often.

I don't know how many movies you've seen, but it's not that weird for people to clap at the end of a good movie. Did you see star wars III at 12:00? At the end of that people where clapping, jumping, whistleing, and dueling with sabers in front.

I actually did - no applause... odd I see movies at theaters often. 28 days later the day it came out, same with gladiator... lots of my favorite movies - Heat, on opening day and never had applause.

I actually liked this one! I'm a big fan of the orginal and I was expecting to really hate this version but Mr Burton did his thang! My only thing however was it was a bit rushed. Well, you'll see it for yourself. I give it two chop sticks up and a fortune cookie!

Elvis, you said something about an audience applause, its weird I have read a lot of times that people have seen the audience applaud, I have never this, in fact I have never seen any reaction from the audience what so ever. I’m in Australia, is it a little different in other countries?

In the UK noone ever applauds, unless it is a festival or premiere etc.

I started clapping at the end of Jurassic Park and was a bit embarrassed... I couldn't help it... John Williams had me in his grasp although the last shot seems to have a cob web in front of the camera!

In my neck of the woods, just south of Hollywood. It is not uncommon at all.

Yeah, Im in North Carolina and whenever I go to the movies in Greenville or Chapel Hill, its not uncommon for people to clap at the end...i like it but for some reason it drives my girlfriend up the wall....

Up here in alaska......its RARE for people to clap after.....we usually just get up and leave.

Kinda a bummer, I would like to see the audiences more into it.

It's rare in San Diego to get clapping although every bluemoon you'll see it happen. The problem here is that there are so many assholes that are going to the movie as a social event moreso than to see the movie. They're more into making noise and being annoying than to appreciate a film; get alot of this in San Diego.

John, You love people don't you....hehehehe

The film,
I don't like the look of Jonnys false gnashers...also Gene Wilder for me is legend.

There is a great reason for the teeth, but I won't tell you. No Spoilers here.

John, I thought it was just me. When I saw W.O.T.W. there was a rude group of young professional males that seemed the only enjoyment they received from the movie was from laughing at the wrong parts. Then looking around to see the audiance reaction. w.t.f. is that all about.

looking forward to checking this out. i've heard very good and very bad comments. interestinly, john august had never seen the original movie before writing the script. just read the book.
