"Charlie And The Chocolate Factory"

I always find there is an old lady just behind me who keeps opening sweets and asking "what did he just say?"

I swear it is always the same one! GRRRR!

The worst thing is, I can't get cross because she can't really help being old the useless.

yep, the theater that i went to in Omaha got applause the opening night, it was refreshing to know that there was still a heartbeat in the audience.

the movie was very well made. Burton was stereotypical Burton, and Johnny Depp never ceases to amaze me, so multifaceted!

i'd give it a B+

I took my sister to see this today and we really liked it. We found ourselves laughing at places where noone else laughed...because this town has no sense of humor...

We liked it and it was just different enough to be good. I love a film that really transplants you.

..saw it.. liked it. it was enjoyable. not fall off your seat funny or edge of you seat suspensfull. but worth the ticket anyway. what gets me is that i already knew the story in movie form . its hard to really enjoy something when your constantly comparing it to something else. but it still pulled through in its own way, and i liked it. it would be alot better for people ( like younger kids ) that never saw the original though.

I do live in the deep south...

JUST KIDDING!!!

No, but seriously, there's a 10 year gap between us and she just sits at home on summer break bored...so I made it a big brother thing to do...

Roald Dahl didn't like it...other than a great performance by Wilder (Depp can't carry his jock strap) the acting was pretty poor.

Who cares if Roald Dahl liked it or not? The original is a wonderful childhood memory for those that were there. Gene Wilder was genius for a time but Depp is one of todays finer
talents.

as far as i know roald dahl is no movie maker he's a writer. And the original movie didn't follow the book to the tee, so that probably pissed him off. But like John hudson said, who cares what he thinks. one mans opinion doesnt make it a shitty movie.

for it's time, it was a cinema marvel, and still is in my opinion.

I didn't think it sucked, I don't think you can make the movie better than it was (not great) and i don't think it happened. I think the movie lacked something...i will go see it for a second time to be fair.

No it's ok that you don't like it, I tend to see a lot of people going to see this for three reasons:
1. They liked the original and want to see what's different.
2. They like the Burton/Depp combo.
3. They want to share a remake with their kids or young one.

You probably don't fit in one of these, so it's just a movie to you. For a lot of people, it's part of their childhood or past...
If I saw Evil Dead when it came out and wasn't a filmmaker, I'd think about it being just a movie. I'd think "My god, this sucks??" :) right?
But now I look at it as an independent film from a director who went on to better things...like Spiderman the movie...clearly clearly better...
It's about how you look at a movie and when in your life you see it...
