Andre, you obviously are involved in the technology aspect of the Li-Ion batteries, and most of your points are well taken. It is true, that depending on the vendor recommendations, the termination point should be what the cell is designed for - 4.1V or 4.2V. Charging up to 4.2V on a generic charger would shorten the life of a 4.1V cell.
But my point is, once the charge is terminated, it does not matter if the charger was right or wrong, there is no current going in the cell any more, so it can stay on the charger, no problem.

We keep 30-40 batteries on chargers all summer and all through the school year for students, with no issue to the batteries. Our Anton Bauers of course are high quality chargers that actually care for batteries on their mounts, but even our camcorder batteries have shown no noticeable effect. The reason we keep them on the chargers is to keep track of charged batteries ready for student use in a very easy fashion (essential for battery rotation) and because the terminals are protected and battery case is protected from damage, which can and does occur when a student, rummaging through a battery bin or shelf, drops a battery and then replaces it quickly without telling us.

No problem to keep them on if you have the right chargers and well balanced batteries and/or a charge management system build in.
