Hi, here is a video. If you don't like my test, its ok if you don't listen to it.

For the others, here we go:

Sorry there is a music background.

I used a lavalier from 0-1min45 :sound is really bassy, muffled.

hypercardioid Oktava mk012 1min45min : more treble,

I tend to prefer the sound of the hypercardioi

What do you guys think of the sounds characteristics . Which one do you prefer?

I slightly prefer the sound of the hyper in this test, but both are acceptable. Something in between the two would probably sound best of all to me. The lavalier lacks in the high end, but the Oktava seems to exaggerate it a little. Some added EQ on the lavalier could probably make it sound much better.

What model of lavalier mic was that, and how was it placed? Moving it higher (away from the chest cavity) or getting it out from under a layer of clothing, if possible, might improve the sound.

the lavalier is the rode lav. it was at about 20cm from my mouth. it was not under a layer of clothing.
Thanks for your comment

It is good tat you do these tests to gain experience in what microphones work best in a given situation but at the end of the day when you come to record on location with all of the limitations that may involve you have to make a choice and stick with it in the knowledge that the final audio will be suitable for the intended content.

Yes a hyper may sound better in a controlled situation but if you have a roving presenter then a radio mic lav will be more suitable, as a dubbing mixer or editor I would then have to make the resulting audio acceptable for the final project!

Anyway it is all about getting the best location audio possible and using the right tools for the job, as others have said you have answered your own question but it may be on a practical shoot that the music in the background will be more of a problem in the edit than the use of a particular microphone!
