changing setup suggestion

Hello after few years it is definitely time to leave my first camera Panasonic Gh3. With that i made my building experience and i have a clearer idea of what i need now in comparision to when i bought gh3
First thing i say i have found myself for most of time shooting not planned situations, footage for documentary generally. And working on my own sometines i have wished to have a camcorder for quicker performance, quicker autofocus and not to change lenses.
Now coming to what i am searching...Gh5,Black Magic pocket 4x, Fuji Xt3 attract my interest, though gh5's footage have a look that remind me gh3 ones a lot. And in a way that i don t like.It is like i am fedup with that style of image. I know little of the 3 models, i know that each one has good and some bad. Also i am thinking to some camcorder, as long as i can still have a good control on dof and have a nice film looking images. Now i ask you some suggestions, about models , knowing that mu budget il beetwen 1500 and 1800 euro may be, and i would not mind a second hand gear.
As a first question i would say is there a camcorder that let me have control on dof, meaning i can get a narrow dof as well as deep, and with image quality comparable to dslr's ones?
Thanks for helping

This is a tough spot. What comes to mind for me is the DVC200 with a m4/3rds sensor but a slowish lens or one of the new 1" camcorders with a little faster lens. Sort of equals out in the end. But they are going to push the budget you stated. No doubt mirrorless is cheaper compared to camcorders but that functionality is tough to replace.

I see a need for a 6x or 8x zoom fixed lens film camcorder. This would allow for a fast lens but with enough reach to cover most everything outside of long lens shooting. Sort of like a small DVX200 with a fast lens.

dvx200..quite out of budget though..it is diffult..i was going to go with gh5 smothless...but just don't like anymore that "look". DOn't know where to go...

I assume/hope you've got quite a few lenses already for your GH3?

If so then it would make a *lot* of sense to stick with MFT, and get one of: Z Cam E2 / GH5 / GH5S / BMPCC4K

A benefit of sticking with a GH5 / GH5S is you'd get a fairly easy match with your GH3, which is great. As you can have matching A/B cam when doing interviews or covering live events. (your GH5S for instance could be getting your tight money shots, while your GH3 is your wide cam for coverage)

Another camera to seriously consider, which is a step down from those I mentioned, is the Panasonic G85/G80. As this camera is a step down, but still a very very capable 8bit 4K camera with IBIS. And would be a huge leap forward from your GH3! But at a very very low cost, which is surely appealing.

Anyway, it seems from your sig that you don't have many (barely any! Surprising) native mount lenses at all. Thus you could give serious consideration to the Fujifilm X-T3 and (soon) the Nikon Z6 as well.

i have 2 Lumix lenses and not tose very good ones, 14 42 and 45 175 plus several vintage lenses expecially minolta rokkor. as i said going to panasonic again, g80 (which also i like a lot) or better still GH5 was my primary intention. But wathcing the video tey produce, they remaind me too much the gh3, and that panasonic style (that i find also in some low end camcorder) i don't like it anymore, get bored of it. and i am really tempted to go samcorder for easy of use in some situations, no lens changing, stabilzer, autofocus..all things that generally are not together in a unique dslr.
That said, i would like to see some gh5, or g80 video that don t remind me of GH3!

Have a browse on vimeo of videos and you'll find ones you like (and ones you don't!):

Remember though the final look is usually saying more about the user than the camera!

Great!
ok may be i have choose the wrong channel to watch test... :) i watched on youtube and the firts that came up..not good

These you linked are really nice, also g85 is really good
I wonder if it is a matter of a very good cc as most of these videos have
Watching these clips feel much more like buying a gh5, or even a g80...don't know exactly the differnces yet
going to a camcorder is at this point the only alternative...though i don t know how much shall i invest to have similar image quality of these mirrorless
