changing scene file on same tape

Hi- Is it a problem to change from 30p to 24pa on the same tape? Or will final cut pick up on the change for me?

Thanks

Re: changing scene file on same tape

Should work as long as you don't change the scene file while recording.

But experiment a little. Shoot a few minutes of 30p; stop the tape. Record a few minutes of 24p. Capture. See what happens.

Yep -- a simple test will answer the question. Vegas handles it seamlessly, I would expect that FCP should be able to as well, but only testing will verify.

Re: changing scene file on same tape

Actually, I bet FCP would not handle it on the fly. I havent tested yet, but since you have to manually tell it that it has 2:3:3:2 pulldown and to remove it, I bet you'd have to capture it in two separate batches with different settings.

Just a hunch,

That is why I love Vegas. I went from FCP and will never, ever go back.

As for the dial, even if you rotate it while your recording it wont actually change anything till you hit stop, at least that's what Jarred told me about a year ago.

Re: changing scene file on same tape

It won't change the frame rate, but it *will* change the other settings. If you have different settings for chroma level or detail or master ped or gamma, etc., and you change the scene file dial, all those things WILL change during the recording. The only thing that won't change, near as I can tell, is frame rate.

Re: changing scene file on same tape

Thanks for the advice. I will do some testing but I have actually never looged any 24 advanced footage. What is that I need to tell my computer (Final Cut)? And what is Vegas.
Best,
Sam
