I had the need to backup CF cards. I looked at various CDR devices but they didn't seem to be a good choice. There is no way to verify with out a computer and if I had the computer - I had a backup so whats the point. Well it sort of came to a head because I'm going to be off recording for about two weeks and I didn't want to buy enough CF cards to cover the whole thing for obvious $$$$$ reasons.
I came across a battery powered CF backup device that seems perfect. Got the device on ebay for $99 including the case and external battery (~30 - 80 gigs of backup between charges), and a drive locally for ~$100 and now have an 80 gig solution. you can verify backups and a few other bells and whistles plus it will connect with just about any USB device and back it up. When you get home plug it into the computer and it's a hard drive. There is also a firewire version.
