Certain actors distorted when they say "s" words?!!

It's the other way round .. once you align the MixPre to the cam don't touch it .. you make level adjustments on the MixPre. But those volume changes won't cure the S distortion .. make sure the cam vol is set correctly and you are feeding its line in not mic in.

And how are you determining this distortion .. if it's on your headphones try capturing some to your NLE and see what it looks like on the waveform. Overmodulated sibilance should show as big spikes.
