Century Optics and other Anamorphic options.

A thread discussing the Iscorama shows how much people want a reasonably priced Anamorphic option. Just wanted to find out from peoples experience what other options we have to get the anamorphic look, flares and all.

Has anyone used the Century Optics Lens, it seems more an adapter than lens and wondering if its purpose is just to produce 16:9 form 4:3, So wondering what it will do to a 16:9 frame?

I wish someone would do a performance test of all the options...

I currently have the panasonic LA7200, difficult to use and barreled as all hell, but can be nice in some conditions...

the century optics is a 1.33x stretch like the panasonic. I've been doing a shootout between the panasonic, the iscorama 50mm, the isco 54, and the optex which is very similar to the century. I'll be posting the results and samples in about a week. So far I can tell you the iscorama blows the panasonic away.

Cool, looking forward to it . . . . .

A 1.33x adapter, which is what the panasonic ag 7200 is, added to a 16:9 ratio (what the canon mrk ii is), will give you something that looks like this: http://vimeo.com/5680250

That's the full image in the video, no cropping... if that's not 2:35 widescreen it look pretty darn close.

I am so jealous of your Iscoramas I can't find one anywhere around here.

The stock is coming. New glass, not old, not even used. I'm just waiting for the Isco rep's, back from holidays in just a few days. Be patient. I will inform all.

Just bought one. Other takers?

Oh well!!!

Cant wait to see some examples from you! I was also interested buying this adapter. But living here in germany is difficult to order (customs etc).

I woult put it on some Nikkors with 52mm thread. I wrote the max. back tread of the adapter is 52mm.

Thats the standard thread for most Nikkor primes.

isco's are made in germany surely you can find one if you look hard enough. I bought one of mine from germany!

Yes, I bought it. I will have the adapter in my hands just for christmas when I'll be back home. It'd be fine to listen somebody else first. The Century sucks.

I will be receiving a Sankor 16C anamorphic (in transit now)....I've done some research and I'm aware that it may not even "work" as far as focus and image size, etc....but I'll test it out and post the results. I'm so glad that everyone is doing this, because I have been looking at EACH AND EVERY ONE of these lenses because of the incredible footage posted by the Iscorama anamorphic. CBS....let us know when you get the "STUFF"....everyone with an anamorphic....post your footage so we can make informed decisions.

i do have that "generic" anamorphic adapter. It exists with a few different brand names. Soligor (German) is one of them. But they are all the same adapter.
While i does work and you can get some fairly good looking footage in some cases it is a pretty cheap product. And I guess it was made for SD shooting. There's a good deal of chromatic abberiation, which can be corrected in post (scale the color channels in AE)
What it does, it gives you the beautiful blue horizontal flares.
But seeing the footage from the Iscos, this is far off.
