century optics adapters

ok, ive had my hvx for a few weeks now and im loving it. BUT coming from the canon XL world, i REALLY miss the interchangeable lenses - which brings us to my question.

im looking at the century optics tele and wide adapters. they seem really expensive for simple "adapters"...

id love to hear some feedback from those of you who are using them and tell me if they justify their high price tags... and maybe post some still images for reference

I have the telephoto adapter. Don't have any images to show right now. There have been some tele adapter photos a while ago. A search would turn up those threads.

The main use for the tele will be for event shoots when the camera is at the back of the room. It's useable from around Zoom 55 and above (because of barrel vignetting or whatever it's called. Great Quality class. Some may not think it adds that much, but it may be just enough to get the closeup you need, and possibly help you achieve shallow-er focus.

I'm thinking about getting the .6x adapter. I had the .6x for the dvx and didn't end up using it that much. Although a recent TV episode inspired me to shoot dogs with hats closeup with a wide angle lens.

Hi there,
I have the 1.6 and th .6 for my DVX. The century optics lenses are the ones most recommended here, and although I've only used them a bit, they're good quality glass. The bayonette mount makes them easy to put on and take off, but be aware, you will need to get another Matte Box, as th esupplied one won't fit with them on.

Also, a slight dissapointment was that the .6 won't take a filter, so you can't put anything on the lens to protect the glass. I asked Century Optics about the 1.6, and apparently they have just made a clear filter for that. But it's not cheap.

The other point to note is that the .6 won't allow full zoom through from wide to tele. Goes out of focus about half way, and stays that way. The .7 does allow full zoom through.

Other than that, if you've been like me on a shoot where I was covering a band from the back of the room and cursed that you couldn't get in tighter, then the 1.6 is definitely the way to go.

I'm sorry I don't have any images, but I have found some in the past, I think maybe even at the Century Optics site.

Good luck

do you have concerns regarding the lens adpater being so HEAVY it might rip off the front housing of the hvx? it needing rail support, ideally? it seems even heavier and bulkier than the 1. 6 for the DVX.

No, I don't have concerns that it would rip the front of the housing off.

im looking at this to try and squeeze out a bit more depth with the hvx, though I'm often in run and gun situations. is this a better solution than a 35 mm adapter or is there no comparison? is a 35mm on rails a big time sink for changing out and carrying it around?
