Another cello video from Tom Flaherty!
(Sorry YouTube haters, but) It's unfortunately split into two parts due to YouTube time limits...
Anyway, this piece is a Tro for Cello and Digital Processor. The idea is simple, but the execution is brilliant. Tom basically uses two delays - one set to .5 seconds, and one to 1 second - to accompany himself. It's like he is traveling through time to accompany himself. The brilliance is in how the composition takes advantage of this setup... it really IS a trio, rather than one instrument with an effect, and in some parts, watching the way Tom jumps around to play notes in different voices, that jump between him and the two delays is astounding... well, you gotta watch it to see.
So watch part one, then jump to part two as quickly as you can!
Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wMg28Nt7LfA
Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSpJAvMEn3A
Again, this isn't intended to be an example of great video (I just tossed up the camera while I was recording audio and doing the live sound mx for a very complicated electronic music festival) - it's all about the music!
