CD Prores transfer tool question

Mitch or anyone else that knows:

The readme doc that comes with the CD Prores transfer tool states this:

This tool also optimizes Odyssey 7Q ProRes files for playback efficiency on a computer
and in editors.

Anyone know what this actually means technically. Would this affect playback in Windows Premiere Pro CC 2014 for instance? I've played clips in Premiere that have been copied directly from the SSD and also via the transfer tool and have never noticed a difference in playback, although I've not compared side by side.

So does the transfer tool actually do anything apart from combine the clips or maybe there's something obscure in the new clips that only affects certain editors?

Thanks,

Paul.

It combines the sub clips into individual full clips rather than you having to string them together. It's a convenience tool.

Ah but the doc doesn't say that - from memory, it says it combines clips then goes on to say it optimises as well. Is the doc just incorrect or not written in the clearest way maybe?

The clip names & metadata and the organization in the folders can be seen as an "optimization" of post workflow.

Using the ProRes Transfer Utility as the way one imports the files off the SSD into the computer/drive is a one step process that makes all the material ready to go for editing. That can be considered optimizing.

Still seems quite annoying that CD has a multi step process to go from recording to editing. It has to fix the files on 'eject' and then fix them again on 'import', where most other recorders have 0 steps in that you could basically just edit right off the ssd or do a standard file copy on any computer. It doesn't 'just work' and it's not intuitive or smart and I hope CD is working on fixing that.

It would be very beneficial to be able to offload material mid shoot. I hope that would be made possible in the future.

Also agree that there's really no reason to call something as vague as "optimization" if you can explain what it actually means in two sentences like Mitch just did! :D
