These are some stills that I CC'd in AE. Thought I'd show a few to see what people thought. I'm still deciding whether to go with color or black and white with crushed blacks....They both look pretty good but I thought I get your guys opinion on it....

Oh by the way these shots are for a promo for Go Wakeboarding Day...Let me know what you all think!

I don't think B/W works too well here. The orangish tint isn't doing it for me either. If this is a promo video, why not really pump up the colors? Really blue water, green trees, ect?

I like the black and white the best, but its a little artsy for a promo. I'm with BennisHahn and the bright colors. Crank the colors way up. The orange seems to calm and quiet. I could see a promo starting out this way and then kicking in with some loud music and bright colors though.

I think I prefer the colors overall, but the white boots look better in the B&W shots. The 1st color shot (2nd shot overall) looks the best to me, because the color of the boots looks most natural, but the rest of the color shots look too extremely tinted.

These guys are crazy. The colored shots, definitely, and the warm tint rocks.

Although a bit of blue in the sky would REALLY enhance the shots. Throw a blue gradient filter on a couple, and see what it looks like (and post a screengrab). I'll bet there's where your answer lies...

hey rob, what does that mean exactly? a gradient filter?

Umm... it's actually "Ryan" if we're going by first name's ;) (although I usually go by Brown). C'mon Papa, you should know me by now.

It's exactly what it sounds like - a filter that is basically nothing on the bottom half, and the top half slowy fade's into a blue for shots where the sky is blown out. Magic bullet has a couple... I think they're called "Grad Sky" or something...

Hey thanks for the feedback! Yeah I agree with what you guys are saying...The only reason I wanted to stay color is because the sky and water looked so perfect that it would be crazy not to keep it in color....I liked the crushed blacks because it just had this look that caught my eye having the white bindings and white board but I was contemplating using it because not all the shots look as good as others in black and white....

Brown: I'll definitely take you up on your idea. I think that is something that these shots really need.....Thanks for the idea and I'll post some updated grabs as soon as a get them done....

Keep posting I appreciate the feedback!

I love B&W, too bad it's not more widely accepted...

As do I, but for a wakeboarding promo? I think the only way it could work is if there was a mix between B&W, and color shots. With a "candid/doc" type editing style.

I agree that colour works better for something like wakeboarding.
B&W just doesn't seem right. But hey, that's just my opinion.

Okay, I went with a Gradsky setting to get some of the colors out of it and up'ed the hue a bit....So here is what they look like, tell me if this is what you guys are thinking...I think they look pretty good, although I think I'm going to go with a mix of B&W and color depending on how I plan to edit this...Check it out and tell me what you think....
