CCD Problems! Green display.. please help!

I loaned my DVX-100b to a friend and got it back with what I think might be a CCD issue.

When I turn on the camera to Record mode the both the view finder and flip out screen are competely green. Time code and other onscreen displays are normal, but when I zoom in and out or up the gain black pixels jump all around the display. I see no picture or shades of the image.

This occurred after a new tape was inserted into the camera. Playback is ok, but when I record I only get green on playback.

Is this a possible CCD faliure? Has anyone had this problem before and solved it?... I'm supposed to shoot with it next weekend and need to figure this out... thanks for your help.

here are some screen grabs from something i recorded on the camera... this is NOT capturing problems, these pics are identical to the viewfinder and flip screen images.

i am probably no help to you but as a precaution, never loan out ur DVX. your dvx should be your baby

I would definetely take it to a authorized service center asap.

I would be talking to an authorized repair center right away. Spec-Comm, one of this site's sponsors, is an authorized repair center.

I know the problem, and I posted it here, but nobody knew what the problem was either...
Anyway, last winter my DVX went yellow on me. Same situation as yours, my TC readout and other on-screen settings weren't discoloured, but everything was nice and piss yellow. Sent it to Panasonic and they said it was a damaged circuit board disrupting the signal from the CCD. just needed some new soldering.
2 wks later, DVX was back and the repair only costed me about $300.
As for your shoot next weekend, the shop who sent my DVX to Panasonic lent me a camera free of charge, mainly because I bought my DVX there and I've bought other equipment from them. Hopefully you can get another DVX for reasonable price, considering the circumstances.

thank you all for your help. I'll let you know what happens when i talk to the service dept.

The saddest part is that the heads only have 28h worth of record time (brand new baby, just bought it in July), so i'm hopping my warranty will still cover this... is that how it works?

Yes, your baby is still covered under warranty. Pannasonic should repair it for you free of charge. But you might also like to ask them if they offer any extended warranty for your DVX, perhaps for a small fee, you could extend your warranty to maybe 3 years. Some other companies do this, not sure if Panny does this too. Let me know kay? Thanks, & in future, never lend your DVX even to an experienced camera operator. If you have to lend it to him, then escort that cameraman during the actual shoot so you can keep an eye on your camera. That's what I did & the cameraman didn't mind me being around. Also, set your day rental charges way up there so the cameraman will think twice about renting. Besides, there are proper productions houses that do lend out professional camera equipment. Ask him to try that first.
