Cavision dslr rig

Has anyone used or had experience with the Cavision dslr rig with or without the FF? I was also looking into piecing together the red rock. Would you have to buy the dslr baseplate with the universal plate to be able to mount on the tripod?

All in all what would be the best way to go about it. The cavision rig or even the redrock rig.

I have been using the redrock stuff for a long time now and can vouch for the quality and how rugged it is.

What type of shooting do you plan on doing?

Do you need a mattebox or plan on upgrading to one?

What redrock system do you plan on getting?

I plan on shooting narrative and will be upgrading to getting a matte box. I am just not sure what list of equipment I would need for the red rock without having to buy the cinema bundle. I understand the FF and gears come at $675, then the dslr basplate and rods. What else would you suggest for the red rock? which is probably the way I will go

I have the Cavision DSLR Single Handgrip w/ Viewfinder and love it, very steady video and so much cheaper than other options.

I've been using the Switronix DSLR Pro Rig and think it's great. May be a good foundation to building your rig. Also have the zfinder.

I was looking at the whole hand held option with these rigs like the cavision as a bonus. I am mainly going for the FF, and rods, and one day getting a matte box to use. With the cavision It seems to give me everything plus the view finder for less than it would be to buy red rock equipment.

I will be shooting with the 7d so I understand I would need to get another spacer plate to use because this cavision was made for the 5d.

Does anyone feel this is the right way to go?
