For clarification, as you zoom the lens, do you need to extend the hood? I assume that it is fully retracted at full wide angle. BTW...nice report.

that is kinda the point to extend it when you zoom out. Normally though you still want some of the belows extended at full wide, to still be effective, but with the DVX the lens is so wide you really need to push the bellows back.
