CAVEMEN on ABC... thoughts on it?

So I watched cavemen tonight. I was not really a fan of it. I was curious if anyone knew what it was shot on. It looked like s16, but not good. I was watching it in HD and it seemed soft and really grainy. Some of the scenes seemed to not have lot alot color consistancy between shots....and I didn't find it too funny.

off my soap box. :furious3:

anyone else?

I watched about 10 min while eating dinner and just found it boring, there humor was very dry. Wasnt entertaining.

Sorry, didn't see it...was watching the Geico mascot's new show. He runs a pub in Sussex, and has a wacky mix of clients and staff.

It's excellent...comes on right after the show where the AFLAC duck and the Burger King mascot are mismatched roomies away at college. Great TV.

Well the Burger King mascot does have some video games. haha. "Sneak-King" best game ever....

I found it to have a few chuckles. Nothing I absolutely have to watch, but it's better than some stuff out there. I'll watch it if there's nothing else on...

yeah I watched about ten minutes and jumped ship. Just didnt grab me, but I wasnt in much of a TV watching mood either, so I'll probably give it another try next week. The Office did the same thing for me for a long time and I just didnt get it. Something clicked and now I'm addicted.

I think it has possibilities. I'm a fan of the super-dry humor, and the writing is decent so far. Could be better, but they're only two episodes in, so I'll cut them some slack for a few more. The individual jokes are generally funny, but the plots have been fairly generic. What bugs me more is the direction and look. It's like they're going for "The Office" but weren't quite sure how to pull it off.

But most of all it gives me hope than an ad writer can get out of the product pimping biz and into the ruining the culture racket. Although I have created no semi-beloved ad icons to pilfer.

Now THAT'S funny... be proud of this post man. :cheesy:

As long as the industry is embracing product mascots for shows, I'd like to see the Coppertone girl now that she should be in her late 20's to early 30's... you know, she would show up for an important job interview but there's a little dog revealing her ass the entire time.

The boss is annoyed by the growling dog's presence throughout the interview as she tries to explain it away... the boss tells her that there's no way he can hire her because of this ridiculous commotion... then she turns around to leave and reveals a white arse and nicely tanned back...

"Wait! You're HIRED!"

I actually thought the writing was pretty terrible. The whole episode followed one joke, "we're cavemen." Seemed a bit forced. And, it had an 'us against them' vibe. I mean, these cavemen are adults, SURELY they have some homosapien friends.

Having said that, I am rooting for it. I didn't watch it last night but I did see the premiere last week. But, I will keep an eye on it for a few more weeks. I hope it gets better. Seinfeld was even iffy in its first season...

All they need is that "popping" theme music from Seinfeld and they'll be fine.

In fact I think they should just use a cave-person character to represent each Seinfeld character.

See? Simple.

That's more like 30-40 years ago Matt, I remember her from my childhood. She's more like closer to 40-45, with leathery skin from hanging out topless in the sun for all those years.

From Wikipedia:

The original artist, Joyce Ballantyne Brand, created this iconic image using her daughter Cheri Irwin as the model. Cheri is presently employed as an aerobics instructor in Ocala, Florida. Later, Jodie Foster made her acting debut as the Coppertone girl in a television commercial, when she was 3 years old.

I gave it a shot. i felt the show kinda missed the mark as to what was funny about the commercials, namely the blind stereotyping itself. The non-cavemen in show aren't credible enough as human beings. Basically, it's socio-pychologically 100 years after the commercials. The cavemen are more or less fully integrated. Both the cave and the non cave people are more or less on the same level. In the ads the cavemen were more civilized/ intellectual/ cultured/ developed/ evolved struggling to deal with the stupid "normal," an essential element to the whole irony. In the show everyone is more or less a typical joe. It was funny seeing the therapist with her caveman client- who deft fully outwits her and is yet depressed and must call his mother. This edge seemed missing in the epi I watched.

I didn't see any cave women, either.
