OK Sports Fans

Hey sports fans. This is something that I debate with myself a lot. If you could pick any sport and be commissioner for a day, what would you do?

For me it is most likely no surprise that I choose baseball. I would get rid of interleague play to increase the rivalry between the AL & NL. Then I would make the All Star Game not determine who gets home field advantage at the World Series. Finally, I would lift the ban on Pete Rose.

OK, so what sport would you choose and what would you do?

As Baseball commissioner I would also get rid of interleague play. I would also put an end to the designated hitter "experiment" (even though the commish doesn't have that power).

 Then what leverage would we have to hold over the AL's head? What would we ridicule then?

My bad? I completely forgot the upside...

Interleague play is cool but only if you live in a major market. The Mets/Yankees games this year should be really good.

Shawn, I agree with you in concept, and for a while it was a great novelty, but at this point, I think that it has gone too far. If you look at the greatest rivalries in baseball, such as the Yankees and Red Sox, they pale in comparison to the traditional AL vs. NL rivalry. Prior to interleague play it was a huge deal to go out there and grind it out to fight against the other league. Now it is such a common place that it takes some of the mystery out of the game. Just my opinion, but I think it served its purpose, and now I want it gone.

That being said, the NYY / NYM games should be exciting May 19, 20m 21 and June 30, July 1, & 2

If I was the basketball commissioner I would enforce a dress code on and off the court and I would only give 1 pt for a slam dunk...

I'd kick Gary Bettman to the side for a day and take over the NHL. Most of the changes that made sense were made during the work stoppage, but I've got a couple more:

- Fighting would be encouraged at all times. Hell, I'd make every game start with a fight.
- I'd make the goalie equipment even smaller than they did this year.
-"Roughing" would no longer be a penalty.

What about flailing and/or keelhauling the brilliant **** that came up with the "streaming-comet-tail-on-the-puck" idea for televised games a few years back?

That was the biggest piece of crap I've ever seen. :) If you can't tell where the puck is without that, you need this---->:nads:

I'm not a big fan of the changes they've made to hockey. It seems to me like they've taken it from a defense game to an offense orriented game.

Oooh... Football, I would get rid of pass interference. I hate that.

It's true, but they had to do something to try to boost interest. Sports fans in this country want to see scoring (for the most part). I don't know how well it's working, but I've really enjoyed the season (even though my Wild will, once again, be watching the playoffs).:(

If I were the King Ding-a-Ling of boxing...
Don't get me started!

First Order of Business...

-Do away with the Mickey Mouse "alphabet soup rankings" that are currently utilized, and move to a ranking system where the boxing writers are polled.

and

-Institute a multi-level tournament structure of some sort (no other sport allows one to choose his next opponent)

That is a great idea! To piggyback on your idea, I would also institute a standard rate of pay or at least a pay scale for boxing to keep the promoters from taking advantage of the fighters and keep everything on the level.

Boxing is the one sport that could use the most revision...

That thing was awesome but not as good as the animated baseball that taught kids the different types of pitches. Now that was an amazing idea.
