Caterpillar from my yard

Kinda creepy when you consider that the bio mass of the insect world far exceeds that of the human inhabitants!

Hey, thanks for looking everyone. For this shoot I made a little terrerium out of a fishbowl complete with moss and this critter's favorite food...my roses. I lit it with a 75w halogen spotlight in a clamp lamp and some foamcore.

I was going to put him back outside after the shoot, but he seemed to be having a good time eating so I let him be.

Well, today I noticed that he is shrinking in size, his bright red head is turning yellow, and he started weaving his cocoon. I'm going to attempt to get some time-lapse of him as he starts to change, but he seems to be kinda lazy as he starts to weave for a little bit and then takes a break for like an hour.

Damn lazy caterpillars! That was cool. I think we have a new mascot for The Red Camera when it comes out.

Well, little guy's been going through some changes. I missed out on getting the process on tape, but here's a still. Looks like something my cat would cough up.

In about two weeks I expect a moth will emerge. If it's a female, it will be wingless, which might be kind of cool to see. Hopefully, I'll be around to capture it all with my DVX.

Thanks again for looking,
-Chris
