"Catching The Fever" feature film stills

Jeez Patryk, 60k! Well done on raising that budget ;) tho there have been films that achieved a lot in the marketplace made on budgets of far less (so your self-appraisal is somewhat conditional really)

I think the lighting looks great, but I feel the criticism levelled against its unnatural qualities or unrealistic qualities (for some frames) is relevant. However, given this film is a egocentric introspective comedy/drama (yep?) of a porn director, then the garish qualities in some of the light set ups may be stylistically appropriate.

It would have been wise to explain (at least succintly) the artistic idea behind your lighting if you are mixing frames of stylistic (or even surreal looking) and natural light setups.

That said the quality of the lighting is superb, and I admire the effort your D.P, and yourself put into it!

While this comment is unrelated to the lighting discussion, I found that the cast appeared very artificial! (Now, don't get me wrong, there all talented etc and im not criticising them.) Im critising you! muhahaa, now I struggle to articulate this, so bare with me. The cast members all look 'too' cast, they don't quite look like characters as much as they looked like 'staged' actors or models.

I know that must sound insane, but it was distracting how they all looked so pretty and made up. Now naturally for genre films (as this is not a serious drama) this is less relevant (american audiences love their eye candy hehe) but it appears perhaps too glossy to leave an entirely earnest impression on me. (I'm sure seeing the footage in motion, and they'll act great will instantly dispell that impression.) But from the images it was distracting for me.

- Walken if it's any consolation I work as a producer, and i'd be much more concerned about my director worrying about the lighting than him having fun muhahaha (so i'd give you a job haha ;)

Bud wei ser... Fun... gotcha.. lol! Great rig for the car stuff.. When ya gonna show us some 24frame stills? you know.. MOTION BABY!!

Hey Roman, good to see you here! I've sent you a message.

lawriejaffa, i know, realisticaly similar results could be ahieved for 10g less, but i don't think you could really go lower then that unless you were using your friends as actors and crew.

You point is well taken, still i think the film (this as many others) creates a fantasy -- a mythology of a kind, i mean when was the last time you wnet out and got to see 14 hot babes???

Haha 14 babes! True true, well good luck mon amie on the rest of the film, and I really look forward to seeing that trailer! ;)

troypod, if you can enlightene me how after paying the crew, actors, for some of locations, gear rental and trucks the producer still could squize $4000 for over 20 day rental of the adapter and the lenses i would really appreciate it.

There are plenty of rental houses willing to work with your budget. Most rental houses charge for 3-day weeks, and there are hundreds of places coast to coast that will rent out the P&S Teknik or MovieTube. The only guys who won't budge are Panavision for their glass... unless you know someone there.

For instance, I'm shooting a $20,000 short in Orlando in 2 weeks. We have the P&S, Aaton Bauer battery pack, HD monitor and 2 8GB P2 cards for ten days for $1200, and 6 Panavision Ultraprimes for $500 for the week.

That's $2,000 or so, after tax.
