Catching Beauty a short movie 27 mins

I shot this movie on a DVX100A NTSC 4:3.
I have also tried to do a green screen effect.
I have edited this footage for about 4 months using fcp 4.5 hd.
It was lot of fun making this movie and I learnt a lot of things doing almost everything except acting.
Excluding my labor the cost of the movie was about 5000$.
For some of the scenes I messed up on the lighting and I had to do lot of color correction and this is what took a lot time of time during editing.
I swear to god, next time before I shoot I will use the light meter. Actually I started using the light meter from day 3 and we shot the movie for 9 days.
I had about 9 * 60 minutes of DV footage. That is a ratio of 1:18, I think it is not bad given ameture actors and all.
I think it is a fun movie, enjoy.

hey ravi, great video.

Room for constructive criticism? :)
Seemed for some shots the framing was a little off, although that may have been a personal artistic choice. Lighting as well, semmed a little flat here and there.

The intro looked fantastic, loved the bubbling water, as well as the wife walking into the bathroom, passing out, then him using the juice he just bathed in the ,,, not sure what exactly but laughed none the less!

What were you using for sound? Seemed at some points as if the sound was coming from the camera itself.

A few of the scenes felt as though they dragged on a little long for their substance. Creative editing could shorten and "tighten" your film. Good work though!

Hi Papa:
 Thanks for your reply you are a wonderful cretique, I love it, helps us do better.
Yeah, I should work on the lighting, it is very important to use a light meter even though you are just shooting video and not on film. For film ofcourse you can't do without it.

For the sound I used a Sennheiser ME66 Mic;
Lot of the stories about this, first day we shot at the Columbia Gorge scene and everybody was congratulating on the great actingbut when I reviewed the footage I saw the boom pole in every frame and I could see it start of high and then slowly dip into the frame as the scene progresses from then on I said thank you to the boom pole operator and I used a C stand to fix the boom pole.
But for the scenes where the actors are moving mostly outdoors I had to use the mic on the Camera itself and it seems to come from a distance, I tried bumping up the volume in the Editor, it is funny how you noticed it not many people can tell, you got a fine sense of ears and eyes very good, I appreciate it.

About some of the Scenes that drag what can we do? most of them are my friends and they all helped me make a movie and lend their house and I can't cut them out and they will be really pissed off, so they have to stay in, as an editor I could say you know I have to let you go (I mean cut you) that means losing friendships, it is a strange social problem and not a technical problem.
We can fix techinical problems but there are also other kinds of problems like if I am also a wirter and editor then it becomes difficult to even cut or make the scene shorter, but given 9 hours of footage to be cut into 30 minutes is not bad.
Thanks for the input, point well taken.
Ravi
