Cartoni Confusion

Dear Friends,

Hi there!

I recently took the plunge and purchased an HVX200 with a Cartoni F101 tripod. Not too surprisingly, I'm overjoyed with the HVX200. The Cartoni tripod, though, is still a bit of a mystery...

The main thing is, I can't seem to get the camera to sit on the tripod without the weight of the HVX causing the tripod head to tilt backward. This happens even with the counterbalance knob set to maximum.

I've been doing a little research, and I feel like something is really out of whack with either the tripod, the camera plate, or both. I'm going to attach some pictures to illustrate:
1) My camera plate
2) My HVX on the tripod
3) The underside of my HVX with the camera plate screwed on

First of all, if you look at the user's manual that the F101 comes with (you can see it here: http://www.cartoni.com/PDF/Focus.pdf) the pictures show a camera plate with TWO screws. Mine only seems to have one (pic 1). Problem?

Secondly, because of the way the camera plate I have is built, there's only one way that the plate can be screwed onto the HVX - and the end result is that most of the camera plate is facing forward (pic 3). If I mount the camera onto the tripod dead center, it's back heavy and tilts. If I move the camera forward to compensate, the plate sticks out almost an inch or more (pic 2).

And... in case you haven't figured it out already, I am pretty new to all this. If I'm being incredibly daft about something - tell me.

What's going on here?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Sincerely,
Kieran

Try this....

Get a teeny little screwdriver. Look at the Tripod's mounting bracket from below. You will see a small screw hole. Take out the little piece that holds the mounting screw and move it to the other groove on the mounting bracket.

I did this when I got mine and was then able to achieve perfect balance with this tripod and the HVX.

If this doesn't work, I had to purchase an additional plate that took care of the problem. However I was putting my head on Miller sticks.

I did the same thing on my Cartoni Focus. It made balancing a snap.
