Cars?

are there any legal issues with using cars in a scene? do filmmakers need to worry about rights like with other name brands?

I think you could get yourself worked up over anything, but I would say who cares? I think that's not a concern personally.

who cares as in, just go for it and if they pull the scene deal with it then? or who cares as in, there are no legal issues. it's an imprtant scene with a famous actor that cannot be re-shot

You need to look up clearance and copyright.

You might very well be covered under fair use but it depends.

Do a bit of research (Yes it is truly hard with this topic).

Formulate your questions, and then if still necessary check with a legal specialist.

The information is there and if you dig with a bit of diligence you can sort it all out!

As long as it's an Oldsmobuick there will be no issues :)

Just kidding, your post made me think of Clark's family truckster in "Vacation"...

You'll wanna avoid any treu license plates for privacy purposes but you are fine with any branding on a car.

Yeah what grinner said. It's perfectly fair to use products in general, honestly, everyone is just really paranoid. There's nothing wrong with displaying a Coke can in plain sight, for instance, we just live in a culture of fear where everyone says, "Well, even though there's no way in hell that Coke would EVER waste their time suing ANYBODY for free product placement, on the off chance that such a thing COULD happen we'll make sure not to show any brand names." I can understand the cause for concern, because if you can avoid brand names you're just best doing so for a variety of reasons, but to be so paranoid about it that you let it be paralyzing, i.e. you never shoot anything because you can't avoid something having a brand on it, then I think you're really overdoing it.
