Carrying case?

Given some time and the fact that more people now own the HVX, what do you think the best carrying case is for the size, price and versatility?

StormCase or Pelican make good cases. A Pelican 1550, 1600, would be fine, not sure on the sizes/models for stormcases. I've got a Peilcan 1550, I believe it was around $120 and has been working great, plenty of room.

If you can get ahold of an original Cinebags CB-01 DO IT. Best possible soft case available for the HVX (also has ample room for mattebox and/or rod systems).

Otherwise, the current production CB-01's are great! Way more sexy than pelican!

Well, the (black) Pelicans look more like CIA covert Ops equipment, which can be sexy in a James Bond / Alias kind of way.

Pelicans are hard cases, waterproof, shockproof, baggage handler-proof.

Cinebags are soft cases, great for production, but you wouldn't want to check 'em at the airport...

In a last minute pinch, I bought a lowelpro camera bag from a local store and absolutely love it. I got the backpack style and it fits the HVX really well and has plenty of room for other gack.. as well as my laptop. Also comes with a tripod carrying thing.. but I mostly use it for my monopod.. and even full raingear. For 180 bucks it worked for what I need and love it.

I also own a storm case which is great for lugging in a truck or on the road.. or for clients, but I don't use it much at all because it's bulky and all that. I also am a nutter since I also own a kata fullsize bag that fits just about everything I can need with the camera.. and again I don't use that because it's too big.

Portability is key for me now.. so I use the packpack a lot... Some sweet ones out there, fo sho'.

Im getting a flgiht case made for mine. How do you think a custom made flight case will compare to the pelican? i cant get the pelican out here you see, would have been a mission.

Any thoughts.

Guys -- I am telling you that Zacuto's foam insert and a Pelican 1650 case is the way to go! Got mine last week -- and absolutely love it. Fits totally snug with everything still on, and plenty of room to store everything. No, you can't carry it on. Big deal. I am just thankful for all the time I can save by not having to put everything back on (rails, mattebox, followfocus... etc) everytime I pull it out. It is pretty spendy, but it holds everything. Right now -- if you mention NAB, they will give 10% off!

No, I don't work for them -- just really happy with the case and insert.

No! It's a little too small. Sadly. The HVX will barely fit... but not with much other stuff. Try it first!

And if ANYONE knows where to get, or is willing to sell, one of the old BIG Cinebags... I'll take it! I have two, have used them for years, and cried when I found out they've shrunk. I just got the CB-01, and it's not quite comfortable for the HVX. So, yes on the old ones, no on the new. Be careful, because many on-line stores have pictures of the old ones though they're selling the new ones...

Im not letting my Cinebag go.. man he should really start making those again.

They are soft, but they have a hard wood bottom that is carpeted, ballistic nylon all around and the top is hard as well. I have a Pelican of course as well, but i have never used it. Its just so nice being able to drop in the camera with mattebox, rails and all the other fixins with no tear down.

As for checkin, I have checked my cinebag in.. no problem. Also, the old cinebag also fits perfectly in a Rubbermaid 40L(?) bin that you can zip tie closed if you gotta ship it.

We have a new case that will debut at NAB made for us by Thermodyne. Camera will fint in with full set of rails, the Matte Box does come off though just for safer shipping. You can load it up with a P2 Store, a Firestore, the Matte Box and rails, 8+ P2 cards, 3 4X4 filters, the Analog HD cable and some othe small things. It also has a collaspable handle and wheels for easy transport. Plus there is a handle on the top and on the side if you have to pick it up in either direction. It looks like one of their Slimline cases, if you are familiar with them. Lots of nice padding in there.

I am trying to get the "set guy" to let me put it in the Garage Set, but it may have to make its way over to Thermodyne to be shown. Just shipped the prototype to Las Vegas fully loaded, so it won't look brand new. I think it will blend into the Garage set very well. List price is $370.

A nice soft case but won't honor the Matte Box and rails without internal reorganization is the Kata MC-61, we also offer that case as the EFP-Bag.

See you all there.

Bag

Hey,

You might want to check out the Lowepro AW DV bag, got it from Adorama for about $190. Won't hold an HVX with mattebox, but has a rain cover, room for camera, Store, bats, etc and very well padded, not a hard bag in any respect, but their stuff is made very well and has a lifetime guarantee. Bought my first in Munich, the best I could find for still cameras, my first love, so I thought I'd check them out for the HVX. It's an american company, they're available online and retail.
