Carrying Case

How do you travel with your FS100? I was thinking about getting a little pelican for the body. If you have tons of stuff, you're going to need big cases/bags...so this question is more tailored towards those who just take the cam out and a few accessories. Any specific bags or cases?

I got this:

http://www.amazon.com/Ape-Case-ACPRO2000-Camera-Backpack/dp/B000WH86BQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1320329790&sr=8-1

The side straps fell off after not much use... other than that ... ;-) ... it has actually served me well. At that price, it's basically something to get me by while I get my whole kit figured out and work out what I really need.

The shortened loupe stands upright at the bottom of the center section (the un-modified loupe needs to lie down and wastes tons of space); the camera goes above it. I keep a small lens (Voigtlander 35mm) on the camera when it's in the case, others (kit lens, Tokina 11-16, FD 50mm) stand in the side sections. I also squeeze in the side handle, set of filters and rings, rubber lens hood, mic, mic bracket, foam windshield, softie, lightweight headphones, Zoom H4N, spare battery, remote, USB cable, and -- very importantly -- folding Softie hairbrush. ;-)

Top pockets hold notes, cleaning cloths, etc. Outside side pockets hold lens caps, clamp for setting up Zoom. I have carried a laptop in the laptop section, but don't recommend it for anything big and bulky (like mine)... though at a pinch it works. A MacBook would probably be fine. It's great for a Nook or Galaxy Tab. (Or both.)

It's a case within a case, so you could theoretically take the camera "box" out and carry it separately. That means there are two zipping lids to open to get to the inside, but they velcro together, so keeping the inner one unzipped means you effectively only have one to open.

Fits in an overhead bin... so overall, OK for super-cheap.

I bought the Pelican 1510. It currently holds (albeit a little messy ;P ):

The FS100 with 18-200, handle, baseplate and follow focus attached
The 16mm
The wide angle adapter
2 additional rods for the baseplate
The microphone mount
A sennheiser 112 kit
A Rode case with the lavaliere mic
The charger
Extra battery
All the cables
Lens support for when using EF lenses
The stock mic
2 baseplates with different screws for my Manfrotto stand

That's about it... basically I have everything I need in that case. I admit it could be larger, I just chose the Peli 1510, because it holds the promise of fitting in overhead compartments :)
Ofcourse this setup is with the dividers and not the foam, oh and without the pocket for the lid of the case.

My FS + glass live in a Peli 1550, and acc's in a LowePro, i take the body & glass in my backpack when flying, and fill the Peli with my clothes... memories of watching my Aaton's case flying through the air and landing in the plane's hold with a solid crash while i was boarding the flight... and i knew i had the camera body and Angenieux in my backpack

and partily due to shooting doco for years, i always had the body, one mag, zoom and a batt carried on, just in case something happened, or the luggage was lost.. i had enough to be shooting no matter what.. i still follow that rule

+1 there.

they like to hurl the hammered aluminum cases especially.

never check a camera. break it down, wrap it up and jam it in a duffel.

Like Dermot says, you can roll while a PA waits for the airport limo at the hotel.

It's never happened to me (lost camera case) but again +1 for good SOP.

I ended up getting the Lightware 48" rolling bag.

I don't fly too much for work so I'm good there...this one is perfect for me and has lots of nice room for a big tripod, all my parts to my portable jib, my sliders, and a few small pelican cases where I keep my monitor, lenses, cables, audio kits, etc.

It ends up being about 50lbs with everything inside it and I just roll it around really easily. Nice to have everything in one spot.
