Carnet for specific countries (South America)

If you are going to a country that is not a carnet signatory you will need to get your client to arrange a bond for you equipment with their local customs officials. This is usualy the case. I wold recomend that you contact Argentine customs to see what their procedure is.

I did a multi country shoot several years ago and told my client that our carnet would not be accepted in China. The client neglected to make the proper arrangements through their local office and our equipment was impounded for 2 days while they worked it out. Got in lots of sight seeing.

What if you're not affiliated with a company, and just want to capture some good looking footage in a foreign country? Would customs let you bring in your HVX/HPX?

Yes, they do in Argentina.

Do i need a carnet for canada to bring a panasonic dvx100a?

Im heading to toronto for a few days for the film festival. Love to shoot some scenics of the happenings.
Can i bring a panasonic dvx100a without any paperwork?
Or will customs give me a problem?

And what about a tripod/monopod?

Thanks everyone!

Jimmy,
I have traveled to Toronto by plane and car with a cam and tripod (and adaptor) with no problems. It helps to be a bit inconspicuous about it.

Doing business in Canada is not always a problem either...Check out NAFTA for more information.

Jimmy,

I'm in Toronto.

You won't have any problems coming into the country at all. The border officials here worry more about whether you're bringing booze or cigarettes.

Your problem, if any, will be returning to the US, at which point the US customs nazis could theoretically make you prove you did not purchase the camera in Canada.

Just my $0.02.

Cheers.
