Carl Zeiss (Contax/Yashica) 135mm f2.8 question

Quick question, I just got this lens from KEH to use on my FS100, and the built in lens hood plops out to "fully extended" mode when I tilt the lens downward. Is this a defective lens, or is this just a design flaw that happens with all of these lenses?

Lots of push/pull zooms do this even from new. The photographers call this "zoom creep."

I have a Nikon 35-135 manual that creeps when tilting down, it's just something to live with and work around unless it's really very slack in which case get another lens.

Edit. Spot the person who didn't read the OP properly, ahem!

Um, no. I didn't even know mine had a lens hood until you said that and yes if i yank it out it's there but tilting it seems fine. Having said that i had a Leica R zoom that would do that, very annoying. I wonder if there's some way to stiffen it up so it doesn't do that.

I'm sure it's not unusual though

Mine is not loose like yours is, and worked as it should.

If you don't need to use the pull out shade you might consider something like I did with all my lenses. I installed 77mm step rings on the front of my lenses so they all have a uniform 80mm hard front to fit perfectly in the matte box, or use 77mm screw-on filters.

I had a 135mm C/Y... this was one of the things I noticed and never liked, along with it having some chroma issues in high contrast areas. Luckily I was able to get rid of it...

I am getting ready order the zeiss (contax) 50 f1.4, any experience with this lens?

I too have been looking heavily at acquiring 2 or 3 Zeiss CONTAX lens for use on the FS700. I have had a lot of trouble finding sample footage of the FS100 combined with Zeiss contax. Anyone know of a few sample links. Would love a little inside review of anyone who has used them. I am also thinking if I don't got that route, to go with Alpha lenses and get the adapter for full functionality like a normal camera. Open to any recomendations. I have very little invested in canon glass so I could go any direction, but the zeiss Contax is currently what I am most interested in assuming they live up to some of the reviews I have read in comparing them to Canon L glass in end quality.

I have 3 c/y lenses, 50mm f/1.7, 35mm f/2.8, 25mm f/2.8 and think they are the best 35mm lenses I have used on my AF100 and have ordered a Voiglander adaptor to use with my FS700 when it arrives.

They have a different look than Canon L glass, probably closer to the look of Zeiss Super Speeds.
Plus they are fully manual lenses as opposed to the Canon EF electronic control.
At one point they were truly a bargin much like Lomo lenses, but now many of the great classic lenses have skyrocketed in price.
