Caring for DVX100.

I like to stay away from canned air blowing unwanted dirt/dust into camera/lens. What would be a good regimen in the caring and cleaning of the cam.
Thanks

Re: Caring for DVX100.

Canned air is the safest way to go. Every major film set I have been on, that is what the AC uses. There is less chance of scraping anything, and when used properly will clean the camera right up. Just make sure not to turn the can over or it will spray propellant onto your camera. If you have a spot on the lens, use a well made lens cloth. The $10 spent on the lens cloth is worth the money compared to a new lens element. Soon as I bought my camera I used DustOff on the lens and immediatly put on a Tiffen UV filter for protection. You can get a great price on six cans of DustOff at Costco. It is also great for getting the dust out of your computer and keyboard. I have never had the problem of it setting in dust.

I use those Dust Off cans too for many years now and I have not had any problems. I also keep in my bag a small paintbrush with real soft bristles. I usually go over my camera with that brushing off dust. I am having to use it often now that I have my camera resting in a Pelican Hard Case. I have notice small flakes from the Foam on the camera.

Re: Caring for DVX100.

i bought this this weekend: www.giottos.com/eng_public/products_product_variation.asp?ProductID=23

called the giottos rocket air. it uses air to blow off stuff, not anything in a can. sometimes i get crap shooting out from those cans when i use them to blow out computers so i no way in hell wanted to use them on a $4000 DVX. and this you pay for once and keep.

also bought the promaster opticClean lens cleaner spray and one of those sunglass/lens cleaning cloths/wipes they sell at the pricey sunglass huts and what not. spray once or twice into the cloth then lightly swipe it over the oily spot on my lens. worked like a charm.

just thought id share!

That's my biggest complaint with the Pelicans is their "dandruff" they throw all over your gear in every nook & cranny... >:(

Re: Caring for DVX100.

I was always taught your breath provides enough condensation to use with a good cloth. No chance of any residue left from a cleaner. I never have used a lens cleaning spray except in the worst situation.

PANCRO AND ROSCO TISSUES, and a Chamios. Plus a Camel Hair brush and some canned air. Thats all you need

Re: Caring for DVX100.

.. does anyone else do it naturally like me, and just softly lick the dust off?.. its a great way to bond with your camera..

HAHAHAHAHHHAHAA MAN you crack me up....

... but yes, I do that on occasion.. but only when it's cold outside and it's tiny little server motors start spinning softly at my touch... keeping me warm inside... the glimmer off it's lens shining in my eye like the sun's reflection in the morning dew.... 8)
