Card reader only works in slot A (not B)

I've been using my eLCR card reader without out problem for the past month or so...however I tried using it in Slot B for the first time last night and when I put it in there nothing happens, it's as if the slot is empty. Again, I never have trouble when I put it in Slot A, in fact its been working so well for me that I was going to get another one so that I can hot-swap them, however now I am a little cautious. Has anyone else had this issue, and is it an issue with my card reader or my camera?? (PS SxS cards work fine in slot B)

It is possible the USB connectors in slot B have failed inside the camera so its not recognising USB media, while SxS uses different connectors being PCI Express internally.

Worst case you can keep 1 piece of SxS in B, let it swap when A is full, quickly switch card in A and manually switch back to record to A with the swap slot button. Even an 8GB SxS card in B would get you lots of media reloads in A if it is only used for a min or so each time. Let Clip Browser put it all back together later for you.

YIKES! I really didn't think it was a camera issue, how much is something like that to fix??? Could it eventually lead to SxS media not working either.

It wouldn't be cheap to fix if it is, nothing about this camera seems cheap to service. SxS will probably keep working just fine but the other USB options like the Sony readers, that USB based external HDD etc wouldn't work without being fixed. Try other adaptors if you have them, if they all have the same problem then its the camera :-(

I agree with Guy. Not sure it's a big deal that slot B doesn't recognize the SDHC card. Like Guy said, use that for an SxS card. However, if you follow the advice of Doug Jenson, you should only have one card in the camera at a time anyway. I learned the hard way when I was deleting clips on what I thought was the card in B, only to realize the camera had switched to A !!!! Talked to Doug at NAB this week and he reminded me that was Tip #10 in his EX1 Field Manual!! More on this later.

Are you using new generation MxR adapters? I noticed that when using two adapters/cards in my EX1r.....that when slot B was recording....and you shut the camera down....after powering back up....the camera would automatically select Slot A! this is not the problem you describe.....but may be part of what is going on. Efilms was good enough to swap out my new adapters(32gb capable) for older ones that do not have this problem. Good advice to use one card only.....at a time.
