Card Failure

Well this weekend I had my first card failure!

I was shooting at a seminar, just basically a bunch of B-Roll. So it was a lot of short clips.

After about an hour of runtime on the card I got an error that said something like "Data Error Detected" then it asked me if I wanted to repair the clips and I selected yes. It worked for a couple of min and then said that "Thumbnail recovery failed". I could not get the camera to shut off so I ended up pulling the battery off the camera and pulling the card out. I stuck another card in and continued shooting.

When I got home that afternoon I stuck the failed SD card in my laptop and all the files were there. Thankfully!. I copied them over to my HDD with no problems.

I just stuck the card back in the camera this morning and it again said that there was a thumbnail error and it was going to try to repair them. It failed again. Again I had to take the battery out to get the camera to shutdown.

I decided I would stick the card back in the camera and try it one more time and this time it said that the repair was succesfull. I attempted to record some more to the card and It Worked!. I switched the camera to playback mode and it plays all the clips, including the ones I just recorded just fine.

FYI:
Delkin 16gb Class6
Formated in the camera
used several times before with no issues
shooting 720p60

similar problem

I had a similar problem a few weeks ago with the very same card. My card failed completely though. Thankfully nothing important on it. After sending and receiving a lot of posts, the advice was to use higher quality (more expensive!) cards. I went to B&H, and the guy there told me that most card failures happen within the first 7 formattings. So a trick is to format your card 7 times, and if it doesn't fail, it's considered more secure when shooting something crucial, like a job. So I did that, and no problems so far. But it did give me a scare.

I think I will go thougth and format all our cards 7 times and see if we have any more problems...

Thanks for the info...
