Card Confusion

I have FOUR HMC cameras and a new GH1 and I'm scratching my head over cards.

I have 10 Verbatim Class 6 card (all 16GB). All HMC cameras show 'some' of them as class 6 and others as Class 4. The cards are identical, bought at the same time from the same (reputable) supplier. Cards are consistent between the cameras. If it shows class 6 in one, it's class 6 in another, while those that show class 4 in one are class 4 in the all the others.

Today I got a Panasonic Class 10 (8GB) card with a GH1 camera (again from a reputable supplier). It works perfectly in the GH1, yet all my HMCs say it's not supported in the higher recording modes, and do not show any class info when asked about the card status!

Any ideas what is going on here?

Yes, that Class 10 issue is definitely a firmware update issue. The HMC150 was produced before Class 10 existed, so when Class 10 was introduced, they had to issue a firmware update to recognize it.

I say update all your cameras' firmware, then try again.

I'm looking on the PASS site now - and can't see where the firmware updates are. HELP! I must be blind - but the Panasonic PASS website seems less than intuitive.....

PASS is one of the worst designed websites ever.

Look in "the library", probably in there.
