carbon or fiber rods for rigs?

I am beginning to look for a expandable dlsr(Nikon) rig-shoulder for now, but may eventually build it up to hold monitor, focus accessories. Wondering what others have found on comparing metal vs carbon rods in terms of durability, weight, and any other factors. Keeping budget in mind, but I don't like models that seem built out of 'legos' or an erector set. I appreciate learning from your experiences.

Depending on what clamps you have (for example, single clamps) you may find the carbon fiber rods to be a bit smooth - and sometimes things might not grip too well. This is just my experience, but they weigh somewhat less.

i personally wouldnt bother with the added expense of carbon fiber. the weight savings isnt tremendous
