Car mount

Hi all

I am looking to shoot a scene where the camera is mounted outside the car, looking in through the front windshield, preferably on the bonnet.

Has anyone had experience of rigging this successfully, with a no-low budget (I dont really like the idea of my DVX shooting off the car while driving, though it will probably give some good footage.)?

Cheers

Matt

Clean the windshield, watch for reflections (maybe use a polarizer), and mount the tripod in the front seat. You need to configure the legs according to your specific vehicle and stabilize the tripod with your non-driving hand.

This hack works pretty well, especially at night. No risk to your camera!

check out Killer Camera Rigs You Can Build by Dan Selakovich. he's got instructions for a car-mount. very safe. the instructions include bungy cords for security in addition to the suction cups which hold the mount in place. Dan told me he tested the car-mount without the bungy cords just to see how secure the suction cups were and after driving around for two days it was still stuck on there good and tight. lots of other cool rigs in the book too: cranes, dollies, etc. great book.

Thanks guys, I think I will try the suction method - although the premade one seems a tad expensive - $600 for some suckers.

I will report back on the success (unless it doesnt work, in which case I will be sitting in a darkened room, lamenting, and wishing I'd spent $600).

Matt I have the DV Super grip. It now cost $149 at Alan Gordon Enterprise. I can't remember where I purchased it but I got it for $90.00 about a year and half ago. This works for me but I have to admit that I threw on a few more safety straps around the car's hood to secure it even more. The car never went faster than 35 mph. Set your speed and use cruise control to keep it consistent. Here is the link
