Hey guys,

Just did that "It's always sunny in Phillidephia" competition on Myspace with FX. Here is the fruits of our labor. Turn down your bass and turn up your volume.

Let me know what you all think. I planned for 72 hrs shot in 3. and edited in 3.

I liked it, really thought the story was fun and the acting made me laugh(in a good way i mean). Nice work, one thing i wasnt big one was the colors and look of the footage but I suppose you were going for the documentary look

like it says "turn your bass down and your volume up" i liked the very first scene, but i would rather have to not muck with my bass or volume ;)

That being said, some of the sound was rather poor. The first scene did make me laugh tho.

oh im sorry I had to inconvience you. My appologies you had to turn two dials... I didnt have time to run a proper sound edit and it had to get done b4 i went out of town. I just want to know what people think of it for a sitcom.

it was funny. the mix between static and handheld shots didn't work for me. seems like it would have worked great if it was all handheld. also, the static shot of the two spectators was a bit long, but perhaps that edit would happen on paper. really funny and uncomfortable though.

use a low shelf filter and a bit of compression on all of that audio and it will be 100 times better.

The humor was a bit too oulandish for me. Maybe some subtle or clever jokes would have worked better instead of everthing being played off of wacky personality. I'm not saying I could have done much better but you posted on here to hear opinions so you cant get mad if it doesn't ticle everyone's funnybone. I actually began shooting for this competition as well and we stopped because we didnt have enough time (we tried to do it the night before). So congrats on getting it out in time and you will have to keep us posted on how it fairs against the others.

Im sorry to say...but no. I didn't find a great story in it. No humor that even made me giggle....ask yourSELF....besides the fact that you made it....would YOU watch it? I think the honest answer would be no. Maybe this is your first attempt at something like this. Im not saying that it is S*** just needs a bit of improvement in the writing to make the viewer really wann keep watching. Sometimes you have to put yourself outside of the box of the creator and try to see it as an audience. Hope that helps and DEFINITELY dont give up.

would i watch it? Just did? Another episode? Possibly. What would i change? Alot: In all honesty it did not hold my attention that long. I did watch the entire thing hopeing something would change or happen, and although the idea is fresh, Will ferrell over there keeps attackin in the same sense, which after a while, goes from funny, too annoying, to i wanna punch taht mother ****er in the face. He seems like a good actor but he shouldj also know, or the writer, that when things dont work for charcters, much in real life, try a different route. I get that most of the commedy comes from the strange character rather than the actual lines being delivred. But it was slightly bland from the family side and too monotone from the salesman. Play around with levels in acting, and you will find the dynamics of the scene.

keep em comin!

I just downloaded and watched it. I like the look of the car shot, the colors and lighting are all pretty good. Although the salesman is a bit over the top it builds energy up to the point where you cut to the two people talking in the doorway. That is where all comprehension stopped for me! What the hell were they talking about?

I have no bass control on my pc so couldn't turn down the bass but I don't think that would have mattered that much...your microphone obviously wasn't close to the talent, so you're getting all background noises at the same level as dialogue.

If you didn't have a boom, you could have started with a wide shot (no dialogue) and then move in closer for the dialogue. Also, that part of the scene is too long unless you intercut with the car shot or whatever it was they were talking about.

In other words, its a visual medium, so SHOW what's going on as much as possible. If you can't show it, move the camera to different angles to make the imagery hold the audience's attention.

I know it's a temptation to edit in the camera by swinging it back and forth from one thing to another, and I even do it myself too much. Especially when I'm running out of time!

But I tell myself every time I watch something I did that on, I'm not going to do it again, because it looks really bad!

Other than that, the used car salesman concept for a series isn't bad! There must be thousands of really horrible/good stories out there to draw on!

And, hell, you got the idea, went out and did it! That in itself is amazing when you realize that most people never do follow up on their ideas.
