Capturing video to computer

I was just wondering. Would there be any difference in capture quality, if I took the tape from my DVX100b, and used my consumer handheld Sony HDR-HC5 to capture to computer. I don't want to lose the quality of footage, seeing that it was shot with my DVX, but don't really want the time on it as a playback device. I will be using Scenalyzer 4 Live for capturing. Or I could just use Vegas Pro 8, if you think that one is more superior over the other in capturing.

What encoder do you use for mpeg2? I told someone the other day that my footage when played on a lcd tv that I noticed that if didn't have that sharp detail that professional footage has. I use Vegas Pro 8 , so it is the "Main Concept" encoder. I would think that it is a very good one. Maybe the tv, someone else said, since it is being blown up.

I wouldn't think that the encoder would matter as long as it is rendering it in MPEG2 format, unless the quality settings were reduced. How large of a TV was it? What were the settings that you recorded with? And what were the settings that you used to encode it? All of these things might play a part in the quality of the image. I use Premiere to edit with and Encore to send to DVD -- they each have quality controls when you export it. Does Main Concept have an adjustable setting when encoding as far as quality?

Not sure what you mean about quality settings. In Vegas I chose best quality in the project settings. When I choose "Render As", I choose DVD NTSC, and the following are the audio/video setting for that template : Audio: 224 Kbps, 48,000 Hz, Layer 2
Video: 29.97 fps, 720x480
Use this setting to create an MPEG-2 file with an NTSC DVD-compliant video stream, and an MPEG layer 2 audio stream.
