Capturing to two Hard Drives

I'm capturing directly to an external hard drive using my MacBook Pro with Final Cut 6. What we would like to do is capture to two hard drives so that when filming is over then both hard drives will have the information and can be taken immediately without having to take time to copy all of the footage to the second hard drive. Is this possible?

Set up a mirror raid...I think that one is a Raid 1.

I just bought a realy nice WD My Book 1TB drive that was on closeout at Best Buy for a mere $199.00. It came with some RAID 1 software so now I have a 500GB RAID 1 drive (there are two physical drives in the housing). It is the perfect P2 field drive. I have flown with it, it's a little bulky for travel but it does the trick. The mental security of RAID 1 is very reassuring.

Mine is similar to this except it has FW800 instead of e-SATA and I paid a lot less... http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=205761522

I've never worked with a raid before. I had always thought that you had to keep the raided hard drives together. Do you format both hard drives for as raid or just one?

Technically you're supposed to keep the drives together. If you want to split the data, you could try separating them but the data might not be readable without the controller. Plus you'd have to swap out drives from the enclosure and that's not something you'll want to do in the field. You'll need a screwdriver to get them out. Not an ideal solution for your dilemma.
I think right now you're stuck with your current workflow, unless there is some feature in FC that I'm not aware of.
It's a reasonably easy feature to program, you should write them and request it in a future version (if it's not available now).

This won't work.
Have you ever used a RAID? I reccommend you should try and exerience these things before making such suggestions to others. :)

Although the data is "mirrored" to both drives, they are being controlled by, um, a controller. Take either of the discs away from the controller that manages them and they'll be useless. (unless you reconnect them to a similar controller, but it would still be a bit a headache to get it to read the data off the disc).
