hi guys just some question,
anyone has ever captured from the dvx100a directly to avid? does it work? what cables do I need? btw Ive heard that some camara have frame drop outs like the xl1s, or do you all use decks?
shouldn't be a problem; i don't know if avid handles 24pA natively--if it does, just set the pulldown properly, and if not, you always have the option to do the pulldown later.
if you're capturing 60i, 30p, and 24pN, then just keep your capture settings standard. other than 24PA, capturing from the DVX is just like capturing from any other camera.
there is the random comment that people have had problems capturing direct from their DVX, but there's been so few complaints that i think it has more to do with people not doing their capture settings properly.
as for cables, a standard firewire will work just fine (assuming you are editing DV; otherwise, RCA outs should be fine into an analog (this shouldn't affect the pulldown, but it might--maybe someone who has more knowledge on this could comment?)
also, a little confused on what you meant by "capturing to comp directly"? are you trying to capture clips straight to the timeline? maybe just a confusing word choice.
I've connected the dvx100 to a laptop running final cut express and no tape in the camera; this capturing worked fine - key was choosing a camera configuration option in FCE that didn't attempt device control (in FCE, this was "NTSC DV Connection" or something like that - not the standard NTSC). This worked with or (as I recall) without timecode running (e.g. TCG free run).
thank you guys for all your replies! ah yea jay sorry for the confusing sentence, I ment by pressing record on the camara and recording on the hd directly, no tapes and so on
