Capturing Problems (drop frame/non)

Sorry if this is a newb question, im an FCP guy. I just took over my first real Avid project, and it has been nothing but trouble.

The main problem I'm having is that I'm trying to re capture some material that was brought in on a format that the particular version of Avid I'm working with doesn't support. I made a new bin, and gathered all the unsupported clips together, and when I try to batch caputure I get (for 10 different clips on 8 different miniDV tapes) a timecode error, in which Avid is stating that a drop frame tape was inserted, while a non drop frame tape was expected, and then it kindly asks me to insert the correct tape, even though that is the correct one.

I have no clue on how to fix this, I've got about 200+ clips I need to re digitize before I can even start on this project, and any help would be extremely appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Confused Final Cut Guy

It is one of those Avid things that has never been fixed. The way around is to call the tape in the machine a new tape such as DV1a or something easily identifiable, or even DV1DF. That solves the problem and you are good to go. I'd simply batch digitize once you've got the tape in your deck. It will ask for only those clips that are offline, and that's it.

It's not really an "Avid thing." It's a tape thing. When naming tapes in Avid, shuttle to some footage before giving it a name, that way Avid is detecting the type of timecode that is present on your recorded footage. With a little foresight you won't have that problem.

That helps for the next project. For this project, I don't know what to tell you, as selecting a new name for the tape will screw up the batch capture. Sorry, guy.

Yeah, this officially sucks. I did the little trick where you log a couple of seconds of random footage, and it fixed the timecode problem for a little.

Now I'm getting the message that the capture was failed because there was a timecode break during the capture. I have set the option in the capture settings menu to "capture over timecode breaks", but it hasn't worked, and I still get the same error message. Restarting Avid and the computer haven't helped either.

I'm sure Avid is overall a good program, but I have never had so much trouble with just the first steps in a long process. I mean I can't even get the footage, let alone start working with it.
